Introduction to Aqeedah is a 14-week foundational course on Islamic beliefs rooted in the Islamic tradition. Students are introduced to key topics like the existence of Allah, types of tawḥīd, the role of reason and revelation, and theological arguments. The course blends Qur’anic reasoning, classical texts, a combination of classic and modern understandings, and real-life examples to help students internalize their faith.
This 14-week course offers a guided exploration of Islamic theology with a structured weekly rhythm that fosters both intellectual inquiry and personal reflection. Sessions are held online and are designed to encourage meaningful engagement through a balance of instruction, discussion, and Q&A.
Each week features two live, 1‑hour sessions at 8 pm–9 pm EST:

Provide a structured and accessible introduction to Islamic creed (ʿAqīdah) rooted in the Māturīdī tradition.
Equip students with the intellectual tools to critically engage with questions of faith using both classical kalām and modern theological perspectives.
Bridge traditional Islamic thought with contemporary insights (including those of Imām al-Tahāwī, Bediüzzaman Said Nursî, M. Fethullah Gülen, and Dr. Muhammad Sa‘id Ramadan al-Būṭī) to address modern spiritual and intellectual challenges.
The Introduction to Aqeedah course runs from September 8 to December 10, 2025, with live sessions held every Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 to 9:00 pm (EST).

Week 6 – Imam al-Tahawi: The Voice of Reason, Knowledge, and Tawheed
Week 7 – Rational Proofs of Allah’s Existence and Unity – Along with the Wisdom Behind Nature, Laws, and Causes
Week 8 – Tawhid al-Rububiyyah
Week 9 – Understanding Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah: Worshipping Allah Alone
Week 10 – Tawḥīd al-Asmāʾ wa’l-Ṣifāt – The Unity of God’s Names and Attributes
Week 11 – Shirk – The Greatest Threat to Tawḥīd: Its Reality, Types, Causes, and the Psychology of Misguidance
Week 12 – What are the essential (dhātī) and affirmative (thubūtī) attributes of Allah?
Week 13 – Allah’s Acts, Will, and Wisdom – The Approaches of the Theological Schools, the Problem of Evil, and the Hereafter
Week 14 – Approach of Ebû Hanife on the Problem of Divine Attribute
The students will be able to…
Explain the foundations of Islamic theology (ʿAqīdah) through the lens of the Māturīdī tradition.
Compare the rational and scriptural basis for belief in Allah and His oneness.
Distinguish between different aspects of tawḥīd: Rubūbiyyah, Ulūhiyyah, and Asmāʾ wa-Ṣifāt.
Question, reflect, and move beyond blind imitation (taqlīd) in matters of belief.
Engage critically with modern and historical arguments about God, creation, and causality.
Integrate classical and contemporary understandings of Islamic belief through insights from Imām al-Tahāwī, Bediüzzaman Said Nursî, M. Fethullah Gülen, and Dr. Muhammad Sa‘id Ramadan al-Būṭī.
