In an age of rapid change, many Muslims, especially those living in Western societies, grapple with deep questions about the Qur’an: its relevance, authenticity, interpretation, and role in modern life. Quran in Modern Times is a 7-week journey designed to answer these essential questions with clarity, confidence, and meaningful engagement. Through guided discussions, interactive tools, and accessible resources, students explore how the Qur’an speaks to contemporary challenges while deepening their relationship with the Book of Allah.
Today, many of us Muslims live in Western democracies. Can the Qur’an offer us better than what we have? How will we respond to claims that there are violent verses in the Qur’an? What about the “Satanic verses”? How can we be sure that the Qur’an is the revelation of Allah and has not been changed over time?
This course addresses these questions and many others commonly posed to young immigrants and Muslims living as minorities. It invites students on a thoughtful exploration of the Qur’an’s preservation, message, and modern-day relevance. Learning will be supported through pre-recorded video lectures, live weekly discussion sessions, and interactive Gimkit challenges and quizzes offered through Google Classroom.

Quran in Modern Times is a thoughtfully designed 7-week course that blends flexibility with meaningful student interaction. Each week, students will watch pre-recorded presentations that introduce core themes such as revelation, preservation, interpretation, and Qur’anic worldview. These materials prepare students for a live discussion and Q&A session every Wednesday at 6:00 PM EST, where they can engage directly with instructors and classmates.
The program emphasizes accessible, technology-supported learning. Through Google Classroom, students will participate in guided activities, explore curated resources, and complete short engagement assignments. Weekly Gimkit quizzes reinforce understanding while making the learning process enjoyable.
By steadily building knowledge each week, the course provides a solid foundation for anyone seeking to understand the Qur’an more deeply in a modern context and develop a practical path toward lifelong engagement with the Book of Allah.
"Quran in Modern Times" is a 7-week course with an average weekly workload of 3 hours, combining pre-recorded presentations with a live discussion and Q&A session every Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm (EST).
Week 1 – Orientation and Introduction to Revelation
What is the Qur’an, and why does it matter today? Understanding revelation and how it was received.
Week 2 – The Preservation of the Qur’an
How the Qur’an was recorded, compiled, and protected through history.
Week 3 – Variations and Interpretations
Exploring different recitations and understanding concepts like naskh (abrogation).
Week 4 – The Qur’an and Modern Contexts
Why the Qur’an was revealed gradually, and how its message remains timeless across cultures.
Week 5 – The Miracle of the Qur’an
The Qur’an’s inimitable nature, its literary beauty, and its role as guidance and healing.
Week 6 – Themes and Engagement
Main topics of the Qur’an, how to approach it meaningfully, and engaging with it in daily life.
Week 7 – The Qur’anic Vision of Civilization
Reflecting on Qur’anic ideals for humanity and their relevance in the modern world.
Week 8 – Final Quiz and Review
The students will be able to…
