Qur’anic Arabic II
Foundations of Qur’anic Arabic II focuses on grammar (naḥw: grammar or the study of the sentence). Students will learn how the Arabic words function in a sentence. This course will enable the students to read and understand the Qur’an and classical texts. Through the course, the students will also be able to strengthen their knowledge of morphology they learned in Arabic I and to expand their vocabulary.
Instructor: Hilmi Okur
Hilmi Okur obtained his bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies and Arabic at Marmara University in Istanbul. He also attended classical learning circles where Arabic was taught through time-honored classical texts. He moved to the United States for further study and earned his masters degree in Jewish-Christian-Muslim Comparative Theology at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Hilmi still lives in Chicago with his family and continues his PhD level study at the University of Chicago, focusing on Islamic exegetical tradition.
