Areas of Specialization: Counseling, Grief counseling, counseled individuals, couples and families in areas of emotional and religious problems, counseled with abused spouses (both genders), facilitated group counseling and educational sessions.
Dr. Ron Cockroft received a Master of Art in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1978 and completed a Master of Divinity at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in California in 1981. In 1992, he obtained a Master of Science degree in psychology at Texas A&M University. Dr. Cockroft completed his Ph. D. in Developmental Psychology, at Texas A&M University in 1995. In 2002 he became licensed as a Professional Counselor-Supervisor.
Dr. Cockroft taught Clinical Pastoral Education and was a Training Supervisor since 2009. He has also organized and taught hospital visitation to lay volunteer visitors and taught courses at several universities and colleges on various aspects of Human Growth and Development, and also Introductory Psychology, and Adolescent Psychology. In addition, Dr. Cockroft has created and led workshops on a variety of topics including family violence, anger, anger resolution, suicide prevention, and helping others in traumatic situations.
Dr. Cockroft worked as the Director of Spiritual Care, in Austin State Hospital between 2002-2017 and in Covenant Medical System where he was a Supervisor in Training and Chaplain between 1999-2001. He worked at First Presbyterian Church of Bryan as an Assistant Pastor / Minister of Pastoral Care between 1995-1998 and served in the U.S. Army and Texas Army National Guard as Chaplain from 1981-2006 until retirement from the military.
