5-Day Summer Program

This year Traditional Islamic Studies Summer Program will re-launch its summer program for young adults. This year the summer program aims to make learning easy, clear and quick. Students will be provided with basics in Islamic Knowledge while learning what’s needed for a deeper understanding of Islamic Knowledge and Sciences and socializing with friends. At Respect students are connected not only to classical knowledge and teachers who walk with students in their journey to understand and practice Islam but to friends and community.

This is an opportunity to Learn, Eat & Socialize -to be in good company.

The 5-Day Intensive will be offered: July 12 trough 16.

Target Audience

This program is targeting young adults and older (Male & Female)

The Focus

Communicating Islamic belief, practice and spirituality and an experience of brotherhood and sisterhood in a learning community.

Educational Objectives

The goal of the student is to give students access to foundational Islamic knowledge needed to understand and practice Islam and to serve as a basis for further studies.

Courses

This year’s program will revolve around 3 areas study and fun relaxing activities.

Class 1: Fundamentals in Quranic Studies

Text: Journey through the Qur’an: A Thematic Introduction to the Quran through a study of 4 select chapters (Using the works of traditional scholars)

Class 2: Fundamentals in Belief

Text: Imam Tahawi’s Creed: Explained by Imam Abu Hafs Siraj al-Din al-Ghaznawi
Time: 12:00-12:45 PM

Class 3: Purification & Prayer According to the Hanafi School

Text: Essential Islamic Knowledge: A Handbook on Hanafi Fiqh by Qadi Thana Ullah Panipati.
Time: 2:00-2:45 PM

Fun Relaxing Activities

1. Day

• Barbecue on the garden, with all students and staff

2. Day

• Soccer with all boys on soccer fiels, we will set the teams and the field • Color me mine with all girls

3. Day

• Visiting a farm and eating ice cream all together. You can choice the farm as you wish.

4. Day

• Maqlube Eating together in the garden

• Rafting with all students

About the Instructors

He has a BA in Western Philosophy and Sociology, and a certificate in Cultural Diversity studies from John Carroll University. During his studies at John Carroll University he also attended Borromeo Seminary for 2 and ½ years wherein he studied Catholic Theology & Catholic Philosophy. After finishing his BA in Philosophy and Sociology he completed a second BA in Islamic Studies from Islamic American University. In addition, he studied abroad for 5 years traditionally in Egypt during which he studied in al-Azhar,ash-Sharif Mudiafa al-Adawi and Masjid Dardir as well as other centers of learning where he acquired ijazat and studied with some of the most revered scholars in Egypt. During that time he also studied Arabic in Diwan and Sibawayh Language Centers. Yusuf has also done graduate work in Education with Notre Dame College in Ohio and is near completion of an MA in Islamic Education with Guidance College. He has training in Social Work and Mental health and Islamic Trauma Therapy and is a founding member of the 3 Puerto Rican Imams Project (a Relief and Social Services Org.) and the founder and Director of the Shaukani Study Circle
He was born in Afghanistan and brought up in Australia. In his Bachelor of Arts, he studied psychological science, at Macquarie University, in 2010. He was the president of Macquarie University Affinity Club (2005-08). In his M. A. he did Islamic and Arabic Studies, University of Sydney, 2012. He studied Arabic at the Nile Centre, Cairo Egypt, 2014. He took Turkish Language courses and Islamic and Ottoman History Courses in Istanbul, Turkey (June 2014 – June 2015). He obtained a certificate in Clinical Pastoral Education at ISRA Australia, 2019. He lectured in Charles Sturt University and Respect Graduate School. His doctoral dissertation is on the role and rules of ‘aql/reason in text criticism of hadith by the famous polymath Abu Ja’far Tahawi. He completed his Ph.D. thesis in July 2022.
